Carol Booth
"Having spent many years gilding and working in the field of fine art restoration, I have returned to my other passion of painting. My paintings are influenced by the landscape around me, Irish landscapes & seascapes - imbued with the mystical that underlies the Irish and our psyche. I am a colorist and an expressionist and merge the two in my work. My work is not only influenced by living in Ireland but is hugely influenced by the time I have spent in Southern California and Mexico - I find many connections between Mexican and Ireland - a similar background with Catholic / Pagan iconographic which is found in both our cultures.
Carol completed her BA in Fine Art at the National College of Art & Design, Dublin. She then worked as a gilder for many years in Dublin.
On completion of her degree Carol travelled extensively throughout
Europe, Mexico and settled in Southern California for many years where she had a studio and exhibited locally in the San Diego area.
On her return to Ireland her primary occupation was Fine Art restoration for many years with her studio in Francis St., Dublin where she employed and trained many in the techniques of gilding - both restoration and contemporary design - working with Interior Designers & Architects on commissions for private homes, hotels, Embassies and so on.
In 2013 Carol decided to explore, once again the field of Fine Art and has since been painting here in Ireland. Her subject matter is landscape/mindscape. Her work explores the world beyond, a realm of mystery and questions, a tension between the real and the imaginary - but at its heart returns to the landscape around her – whether that be in the Irish countryside in Co.Laois where she mainly lives or California and Mexico where she often visits."
