Born and educated in Cork, Mart has been making art in his studio at Crohy Head, West Donegal for fifteen years now, having moved north in the 1980s.

The Wild Atlantic shore before, and the mountain bogs and lochs in the hinterland behind his home have been a constant source of inspiration to him. The dramatic, ever-changing light, the corrosive effects of wind and rain, and the patterns they etch on the landscape are observed daily and inform the work.

In recent years, his practice has changed from a realistic depiction to a closer focus on inner responses, and he has adopted an abstract approach to ARTiculate this.
